Welcome All, Reading Scientific Sciences Ltd, sponsor Deloitte

A ‘cutting-edge’ food and pharmaceutical research company based in Reading can count 30 nationalities among its team of 350 employees.

Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) prides itself on creating an inclusive and connected community, said its nominator for the Welcome All award, sponsored by Deloitte, the British global professional services network.

The award recognises “diversity and inclusiveness” in Reading, as a welcoming town to all and as a City of Sanctuary for ten years, in businesses and organisations who are welcoming and supporting our town’s diverse communities.

RSSL’s Spectrum group is designed to celebrate different cultures and support the LGBTQ2S+ community.

Broadening Horizons (in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry) is aimed at increasing representation from black and ethnic backgrounds in the chemical sciences,

The nominator added that, believing everyone should feel able to be their true selves at work, the company created See What You Don’t See, a programme focused on embracing neurodiversity.

This includes informal chats where people can seek additional support, listen, share and brainstorm more ways to promote inclusivity

A number of neuro-diverse employees have fed back that they are glad that their conditions are being explored and have commented on feeling “heard”, said the nominator.

RSSL, which has provided research, analysis and consultancy to the food and life science sectors for more than 30 years, has also been nominated for Putting Reading on the Map, sponsored by Jacobs the Jewellers and The Purple Turtle.

The company “pushes the boundaries of science and innovation to help make our world safer, healthier and more sustainable,” said its nominator.

With “Reading” in its name, “our town is known throughout the world and is synonymous with scientific excellence for more than 3,000 clients across 60 countries (and growing)!” said the nominator.

Starting from one location, RSSL now spans four sites (three in Reading, one in Wokingham).

It will be expanding their workforce to more than 500 in the next three years, “keen to inspire the scientists of the future and create opportunities without barriers.”

Putting Reading On The Map celebrates a group, business or individual who, by their commitment and dedication, will have raised the profile of our fantastic town in a positive and influential light regionally, nationally or internationally.
