A company’s support for a charity for premature babies and their families has brought it a nomination for the Business in Action award.
RSM Reading had a seven-month partnership with local charity BIBS (Babies in Buscot Support) during 2023, said its nominator.
“The charity is dedicated to supporting sick and premature babies and their families cared for at Reading’s Royal Berkshire Hospital,” they said.
“The RSM Reading team organised a whopping 16 events over the seven-month period, from wine and gin tasting events through to Coronation cream teas, marathons, Green Park runs, football tournaments, bake sales, knitted hats, raffles, auctions and many more, generating funds of £19,510.”
As part of a national RSM UK initiative, all offices were challenged to compete to raise the most funds possible, with the RSM Foundation offering further funds for winning offices, said the nominator.
The Reading office team’s success brought them a further £5,000 from the RSM Foundation, resulting in a grand total of £24,510.
“From the very start, the team was highly engaged with BIBS helping to raise much awareness of the work that BIBS do.
“As a small local charity, it relies solely on the local community for support. Their fundraising has helped BIBS make a difference in 2023/4 by contributing to all their work including funding emotional support and counselling for parents.” said the nominator.
This includes work to improve facilities for families, buying ten breast-feeding chairs, a lifesaving ventilator, and specialist ‘micro-preemie’ dolls for resuscitation training.
The Business in Action award is sponsored by Reading-based lawyers Boyes Turner.
