The Chris Tarrant Award, Richard Bennett, sponsor The Oracle

A man who “has served the Reading and wider Berkshire community in numerous ways” over many years, and is working on a blue plaque scheme for the town, has been nominated for The Chris Tarrant Award.

Richard Bennett’s nominator said: “Richard is a remarkable individual, giving selflessly to causes and organisations in a manner which reflects both his generosity of character and his impressive competence in dealing with a myriad of challenges and situations.

“His impressive skills enable him to deliver time and again on many projects and initiatives in the Reading area, including recently the annual Look Draw Build project with primary school children.”

Richard is a Deputy Lieutenant for Berkshire which, his nominator said, is “a role awarded to those who have a history of serving their local community.

“He has the ability to motivate those he works alongside, spot potential and has a canny ability to impart realistic humour when required,” they added.

“Whilst his abilities as a public speaker and team leader are exceptional, his practical abilities ensure he is always willing to write a document, listen to an idea or even put up a gazebo!”

He has been a member of the Reading Civic Society for 30 years, the last fourteen as chair.

For eight years he has been vice chair of the Reading Conservation Area Advisory Committee; he is secretary of the Watlington House Trust; was project chairman and co-chair of the Trooper Potts Memorial Trust, and for over 10 years a volunteer house guide at Stratfield Saye, said his nominator..

“Finally, to me, Richard has been a generous colleague, contributor, sounding board and inspiration!”

The Chris Tarrant Award is sponsored by The Oracle shopping centre.
