Community Event of the Year, Reading Children’s Festival, sponsor Kingdom Rooms
Reading Children’s Festival is a real community event which focuses on providing three weeks of activities during school holidays which can be enjoyed by all children in Reading, said its nominator for Community Event of the Year.
This year’s festival, which celebrated its 35th anniversary, offered fun and activities for children from all over the borough, they said.
“The team aims to keep as much as possible free or very low cost in order to make these events accessible to every child.”
The event started with the one-day Forbury Fiesta in May with face painting and sports activities, drumming workshops and dance taster sessions, giving children the opportunity to try lots of new things
There were multiple stages with entertainment running throughout the day with local groups performing and showcasing their talents, said the nominator.
“This year they introduced a British Sign Language interpreter to make sure those who need this are included in the event.”
The event engages with many local community and charity groups including Jelly, Sport in Mind, Launchpad, Reading Refugee Support Group, Reading Chinese School, the Bengali Cultural Association and many more, they said.
