Community Champion, Phil Creighton, sponsor Reading Football Club

An editor who has devoted his life to community news has been put forward for the Community Champion award.

Phil Creighton, founder and former editor of Reading Today, has a passion for local news and publishing that is unrivalled, said his nominator, who said he had known Phil from 2007 when he was features editor at the Reading Evening Post.

“When everything went digital he was at the forefront of keeping a print newspaper with the Wokingham Paper, then creating the awesome Reading Today newspaper. “His commitment to the community and supporting every angle of it deserves a nomination for sure,” said his nominator, who added he was tempted to nominate him for The Inspiration Award too.

“He was always hugely supportive of my work through Berzerk Productions and helpful in letting young people have their say, and has inspired many young people to empower themselves,” they said.

“He devoted his life to community news and making sure Reading and the surrounding areas had true news the community could rely on, was a hater of fake news and a hyperlocal advocate and communication specialist.
