Now Amrita Brar, 22, has been nominated for the Young Person of the Year award sponsored by The Abbey School.

Having navigated the challenges of the education system herself, Amrita recognised the need for additional support and guidance for students facing similar hurdles, they said.

Armed with a degree in psychology, she “fearlessly embarked on a journey to make a difference.”

At the tender age of 21, she took a bold step and established two tuition centres, First Class Learning in Woodley and Caversham that work alongside the national curriculum.

“In just over a year of operation in Woodley, and under a year in Caversham, Amrita’s tuition centres have become beacons of hope and learning for over 50 students aged four to 16. “Through her dedication and innovative teaching methods, she has not only helped students improve their academic performance but has also instilled in them a sense of confidence and self-belief,” said her nominator.

“Amrita’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds goes beyond academic success; she fosters a supportive environment where students feel valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

“Her genuine care and empathy create a ripple effect, touching the lives of not just her students but their families and the wider community as well.

“In recognition of her exemplary leadership, compassion, and dedication to education, we wholeheartedly nominate Amrita for the Young Person of the Year Award. She is a shining example of the positive impact one individual can have on the world, and her contributions undoubtedly deserve celebration and acknowledgment.”

The Young Person of the Year award will be given to an inspirational young person, under 25, who has shown outstanding community spirit, drive and ambition.
