Artists and community groups are being invited by arts charity Jelly to decorate a vase to reflect the colours of this year’s Pride of Reading Awards’ logo to be used as a centrepiece on the tables at the awards ceremony.

Jelly will be curating the competition, sponsored by Haslams, leading estate agents in Berkshire for lettings, new homes and residential sales, in association with the Pride of Reading Awards.

To celebrate the awards 20th anniversary, Jelly is inviting artists across Reading to decorate a vase provided by the arts collective.

Selected artworks will be photographed, judged and then taken to the awards lunch on Friday, October 25 where they will be used for the table displays. Designers of the top three vases will be invited to the lunch, where the winner will be announced and receive a prize.

All artists will have the opportunity to see the vases after the awards lunch in a pop-up exhibition at Haslams estate agency and the winning three later in Reading Museum.

Jelly is looking for designs that are bold, vibrant and colourful. They can be painted, knitted or sculptural, using the colours of this year’s theme,(see the logo and powderburst design).

Please note the vase will be under-lit on the table.

You can collect a vase from Jelly from Friday (June 21) by arrangement with the charity.

The deadline to return the vase is no later than Monday, September 2.

Jelly, which was launched in 1993 by Suzanne Stallard, is an energetic collaboration of artists supporting each other and the wider community; acting as a catalyst and making space for art in the everyday.

They play a leading role in Reading’s cultural development working to improve access to visual arts for all, developing visual artists, building pathways towards careers in the creative industries and providing freelance opportunities.

In 2022, it became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).

(blob par) The Jelly-led Open for Art 2024 festival, the largest town centre celebration of visual art, begins on Friday in Reading. It showcases established artists as well as groups the charity works with throughout the year. There are 12 days of creativity with events and workshops to enjoy in various venues.
