SAFETY of students attending nights out at the University of Reading has been tested … and not found wanting.
Earlier this month, Thames Valley Police sent officers and a police dog to the on-site bar, 3sixty, to test for drugs associated with drink spiking. They found nothing.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers from the Wokingham North neighbourhood team, along with Police Dog Atlas and his handler, undertook an operation in partnership with the University of Reading to screen attendees at 3sixty for drugs associated with spiking.
“We are pleased to report that no such drugs were found.
“This operation forms part of our ongoing work across the borough to stamp out the exploitation of vulnerability within our nighttime economy.”
The bar is part of the Reading Students’ Union, and a popular place for students to party into the small hours.
The successful police operation was welcomed by Ish Aa Sujau, its welfare officer.
They said: “The Reading Students’ Union’s top priority is the safety of our students.
“To ensure our venues remain safe, we have implemented several safety measures. These include bag and ID checks at events and the presence of security throughout the venue.
“All the venues of RSU are registered safe places under the Safe Place Project. Our bar staff are trained to handle incidents, and we also provide drink protectors at all our venues to prevent drink spiking.”
