Reading FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stockport County in League One, and once again it was club captain Lewis Wing who delivered the decisive moment.
The game was tightly contested for large periods, with chances at a premium as both sides battled for control. Reading grew into the contest as the second half progressed, and the breakthrough came late.
In the 89th minute, Wing collected the ball just outside the area and unleashed a stunning long-range strike that thundered into the roof of the net, leaving the Stockport goalkeeper with no chance and sending the home crowd into raptures.
Wing has now contributed with eight league goals and four assists this campaign which has helped to drag the Royals up the table.
Having looked to have been in and around the relegation picture just a few weeks ago, Leam Richardson’s side have made a remarkable turnaround and now sit in 9th position on 35 points having now gone five league games unbeaten.
Reading are now eight points above the relegation zone and are just four points off the play-off places.
Reading are away at Leyton Orient, who are in 20th place, on Saturday, January 17.
