Reading FC Women 1–0 Wycombe Wanderers Women
Southern Region Women’s Premier Division
Arbour Park, Slough
Reading FC Women stunned table-topping Wycombe Wanderers Women with a hard-fought 1–0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
A solitary goal from Jazz King proved decisive with a second-half goal to gift the Royals all three points. King’s delivery from a right-wing corner curled directly into the Wycombe net — the ball evading both the goalkeeper and a defender on the line to give the hosts the lead.
Wycombe, unbeaten all league season until they faced Reading, started brightly and dominated early possession, testing Reading’s defensive organisation. Despite boasting the league’s top scorers in their starting XI, they were restricted to long-range efforts and were kept at bay by an organised Reading back line and some key saves.
Reading, buoyed by growing confidence in the second period, gradually began to exert pressure. After taking the lead, they maintained momentum with a string of corners and looked dangerous on the break. As the match entered its final stages, Wycombe pushed forward in search of an equaliser, at one point switching to a back three and delivering crosses into the box, but the Royals stood firm.
A goal-line clearance from substitute Emily Norfolk and a late save from goalkeeper Sophie Butler were crucial in preserving the slim advantage.
Reading FC Women earned a well-deserved three points which lifts them up to sixth place in the table on five wins from nine games.
