READING FC fans finally got the away win in the league that they had been craving for more than a year when the Royals defeated Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

1,900 away supporters made the short trip to Wycombe to watch their side at Adams Park, giving the team spectacular support despite their troubles on the road for the past year.

They were rewarded with three points as Ruben Selles’ side picked up not just their first league away win of the campaign, but their first points of any note away from home in League One.

Sam Smith’s deft touch gave Reading the lead before Wycombe struck back quickly to dull Reading’s jubilation with a stunner from Killian Phillips.

Reading continued to show attacking threat and managed to re-establish their lead before the break when former Wycombe man Lewis Wing found the net via a deflection.

The Royals performed strongly in the second-half and managed to keep Wycombe at bay, while trying to add to their advantage.

After their horror show in stoppage time at Shrewsbury, where Reading conceded twice to lose the match despite being 2-1 up heading into the 90th minute, the side managed to avoid a repeat of that disaster and held on to take a deserved victory.

Reading are back in league action tomorrow night at home to Carlisle United.
