SATURDAY saw the culmination of a three-week long exhibition in Reading exploring human relationships and connections.
The exhibition was hosted at 571 Oxford Road art gallery and featured artists hand-picked by curator Caroline Streatfield, called I’ll Meet You There.
The name comes from a lyric in The Great Wagon by the Sufi poet Jalal al-Din Rumi.
Work exploring human connectedness, spirituality, and interrelationships was displayed from sixteen artists, including sculpture by Poppy Whatmore and Hermione Allsopp, paintings by Nelson Diplexcito, Joe Packer, and Sue Cohen.
Their work appeared alongside that of Nimmi Hutnik, Lee Johnson, Jennifer Maskell-Packer, Tommy McMahon, Joe Packer, Nicole Price, Fiona Roberts, Howard Rogers, Graham Stewart, David Streatfield, Jan Sugden, and Casper White.
It also featured a reading of the poem around which the exhibition had been themed, performed by Mary Genis, and a number of artists took part in an interactive talk as the exhibition drew to a close.
Curator Caroline Streatfield said: “The mayor, Cllr Tony Page, came down to talk a little about the Reading art scene and welcome the artists.
“Then there was a panel with the artists, who took questions from the audience, which made the exhibition that bit more accessible.
“It was such a nice opportunity to get to put the exhibition together and to bring art to street level.”
She explained “It was really well-received, probably my most attended recently, and people really enjoyed getting to ask the artists those kinds of questions.
“They were asking what kinds of medium they preferred, how they decide a work is finished, and just engaging with it.”
