A man from Berkshire has been given a three-year ban from attending football matches after he threw a plastic bottle at fans and committed a racially aggravated public order offence in Oxford United’s home match against Reading last season.
Jordan Clarkson, 20, of Lamborn in Berkshire was sentenced on Wednesday, March 12 for one count each of throwing a missile into a spectator area and a racially aggravated public order offence.
This took place at around 2:20pm on Saturday, February when Oxford United hosted Reading in a local derby between the teams in League One at the Kassam Stadium.
He was arrested on the same day and then charged on July 1. He admitted to throwing the missile but denied the racially aggravated public order offence and was found guilty by Oxford magistrates. Clarkson was also ordered to pay a £300 fine.
PC Alex Locke, of Thames Valley Police, said the force is working with the football club to “combat football-related offences”.
“Football banning orders not only restrict supporters convicted of football-related offences from watching the team they follow but also apply to all regulated football matches in the United Kingdom and some international matches and tournaments as well.
“Football matches should be a safe place for all people and Thames Valley Police will always deal with incidents at football matches robustly.”
