THAMES Valley Police has launched a murder investigation following a stabbing in Reading yesterday.
One man has been arrested after South Central Ambulance Service was called to an incident which took place in Maldon Close at 11.37pm on Thursday, January 2.
The victim, a man aged in his forties, was found with serious stab wounds at a property, but later died at the scene.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
A 49-year-old man, from Reading, was originally arrested for attempted murder, but has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of the victim.
A scene watch has been put in place at the scene, with police appealing for information about the incident– though no wider risk to the public is currently suspected, as the victim and the offender were known to each other.
Investigating officer Detective Inspector Rob Underhill, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this extremely distressing time.
“We are still in the very early stages of this investigation and have made an arrest in connection with this incident.
“I understand that incidents such as this are tragic events and I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we are confident that there is no wider risk to the community and that the victim and offender are known to each other.
“There is a scene-watch in place at the address while the investigation continues.
“This is likely to remain in place for some time, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns to please speak to any of our officers at the scene.
“I would also ask anybody who believes that they may have any information that may assist this investigation to contact Thames Valley Police by calling us on 101 or reporting online, quoting reference 43250002937.
“Alternatively, if you don’t wish to speak directly with police, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
