A READING branch of a surface specialist business has celebrated playing its part in reaching a milestone which has seen plastics transformed into useful materials for homes and offices.

Oltco Reading has been part of the team recycling of the equivalent of one billion plastic straws through Oltco’s a world-first innovation, Recycle Bound.

Launched in 2019, Recycle Bound was developed to address the growing issue of plastic waste.

This resin-bound solution combines stone with waste plastics such as straws, drink bottles and food packaging, repurposing them into high-quality surfaces for homes and public spaces.

Since introducing the offering, Director Adrian Eyre and the Reading team have installed Recycle Bound surfaces throughout the area, transforming local driveways, patios, pathways and commercial spaces into durable, visually striking surfaces while actively helping to reduce plastic pollution.

Oltco marked the achievement with celebrations at Newquay Airport, near the company’s head office.

Mr Eyre said: “The people of Reading have truly embraced the idea of making sustainable choices, and their enthusiasm has made a real difference.

“It’s exciting to offer something that not only enhances outdoor spaces but also helps reduce plastic waste.

“Recycling one billion straws is a major milestone for Oltco, and Reading’s contribution has been an important part of that journey.”

Founded in 2004, Oltco now operates over 50 franchises across the UK.
