A building that used to be occupied by Thames Water employees in Reading is due for demolition.

Rose Kiln Court, an office building that was previously earmarked for flats, is set to be demolished and replaced with three commercial units.

Elsewhere, progress is being made on the redevelopment of the Drews the Ironmongers site, and a plan to add an office to flats in West Reading has been adjusted.

These applications have recently been decided by Reading Borough Council’s planning department.

You can view each approved application by typing the reference in brackets into the council’s planning portal.

A project to replace former Thames Water offices with three commercial units has cleared a crucial planning hurdle.

Rose Kiln Court along the A33 was occupied by the water company’s employees until October 2020, with the building was eventually sold for around £5.88 million.

The project to replace it with commercial units was approved subject to applicant Redwood Propco entering into a Section 106 legal agreement with the council, which was signed this month.

Plans to convert the offices into 34-38 flats were shelved in 2023.

Redevelopment of Drews the Ironmongers moves ahead (PL/25/0338)

The project to redevelop the Drews the Ironmongers building in Caversham Road has also cleared a planning hurdle this month.

The plans part demolition and redevelopment of the building to provide new commercial space at ground level and 29 apartments.

The applicant entered into a contract for the redevelopment and provided a required contaminated land assessment, with the details of both being approved on April 28.

Drews closed after 87 years of trading in October 2018.

Adjustment to plan for addition of office to flats approved (PL/25/0489)

An adjustment allowing work to begin to add an office to Thames House in West Reading has been approved.

The building previously served as offices before it was converted into 16 flats.

The owning company subsequently applied to build an upwards extension to Thames House to provide new office space, which was approved in 2022.

The applicant has recently won permission to be able to remove the rooftop plant room of the building, ready for extension works to take place at a later date.

Plan for bungalow in Coley approved (PL/24/0415)

A developer has won permission to build a new two-bedroom bungalow in Coley.

The house will be situated to the rear of an existing property in Berkeley Avenue.

Assessing the project, planning officer Marcelina Rejwerska stated the development is policy compliant and recommended that it be approved.

The project was then officially approved on April 29.
