Reading FC have confirmed that Noel Hunt has taken over as first-team manager after Ruben Selles departed the club to join Hull City.

Hunt makes the step up to the first-team having previously been in charge of the U21s.

The former Republic of Ireland international joined the Reading coaching team in February 2022. He took interim charge of the first-team at the back end of the 2022/23 after the club sacked Paul Ince with just five games remaining of the season with the club in a relegation battle.

Despite earning a goalless draw against eventual Championship winners Burnley in his first match in charge.

However, Hunt was unable to ensure survival for the Royals as the team drew three and lost two of his five games in charge and were relegated.

Hunt became a fans favourite during his time as a player at the club and spent five seasons in Berkshire.

The club has said that his coaching team will be announced in due course.
