Despite earning a goalless draw against eventual Championship winners Burnley in his first match in charge.
However, Hunt was unable to ensure survival for the Royals as the team drew three and lost two of his five games in charge and were relegated.
Hunt became a fans favourite during his time as a player at the club and spent five seasons in Berkshire.
He was part of the team that won promotion to the Premier League as Championship winners under Brian McDermott in the 2011/12 season.
He netted a total of 39 goals in 162 games for Reading.
