A BERKSHIRE charity is marking three decades of saving the lives of vulnerable babies in the county.

New Life, which raises money to fund equipment for NHS hospitals and their special care baby units, is celebrating its 30th year.

The charity has now raised more than £2m to fund NHS equipment while helping the lives of more than 22,000 children.

New Life is set to celebrate the occasion with a golf day at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club in Sindlesham, sponsored by Select Car Leasing.

The event will see famous names including former footballer Jimmy Bullard, ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle, and international cricketer Darren Gough taking to the fairway.

Select Car Leasing’s involvement will see a team from the Royals taking part, including Reading manager Noel Hunt and players Joel Pereira, Lewis Wing and Andy Yiadom.

Founder and CEO Trevor Goodall established the New Life in 1995 after his twin sons, Joshua and Samuel, were born three months prematurely.

Each weighed just over 1lb, and both passed away after just one week, with the charity being founded in their memory.

Now Mr Goodall, a part-time dental technician from Newbury, is the father of two daughters, Hannah, 29; and Isabel, 25.

Among the equipment New Life regularly purchases for hospitals includes incubators, ventilators, lights, express pumps, and £35,000 critical care machines.

These cool the temperature of newborn infants that have suffered a bleed on the brain while increasing their chances of survival without brain damage.

Mr Goodall said: “This is a special year for us as we mark 30 years since the New Life’s founding.

“I can’t believe it has been 30 years, if I’m being honest, as I can remember that week in hospital like it was yesterday.

“It’s a week that will always stay in my mind – and I want it to stay in my mind because there were some happy moments in there, too, which I’ll always cherish.”

He explained: “Joshua and Samuel have inspired a normal lad like myself to raise an incredible amount of money for other families who are going through what we went through.

“I just want to keep helping as many little babies as I possibly can.”

Mark Tongue, Co-Founder of CEO of Select Car Leasing, said: “Having worked with New Life charity for several years, and having supported its golf days in the past, we’re thrilled to take headline sponsorship of 2025’s big event.

“With Bearwood Lakes Golf Club located just a stone’s throw from Reading FC’s Bearwood Park Training Ground, there’s a real synergy for Select as it’s a location where we already have close connections.

“All money generated from the charity golf day will go directly to NHS hospitals and their Special Care Baby Units (SCBU) both here in Berkshire and across the UK.

“The importance of New Life and the work that Trevor and his team have undertaken cannot be understated, as he’s making a life-changing difference to children and their families.”
