REGULAR visitors to a Berkshire theatre already know it’s a special place that puts on shows that would rival the West End … but it’s now official now that this year’s UK Theatre Awards have been revealed.
The Mill at Sonning’s recent production of Gypsy won a UK Theatre Award for the Best Musical Production.
The show was performed over the summer, with the cast including Rebecca Thornhill, who was nominated for the Best Performance in a Musical.
A team from the Mill attended the ceremony in London earlier this month, including director and choreographer Joseph Pitcher and artistic director Sally Hughes.
The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide awards that celebrate outstanding achievements in regional theatre, and are equivalent to the West End’s Olivier awards.
Ms Hughes said: “We are all delighted at the news. Actually more than delighted…Ecstatic!
“These awards really are a big deal for regional theatre.
“The Mill is lucky to have such a great team of Creatives, Musicians, Back Stage Crew and of course the phenomenal talent of Actors.
“We are floating on air, and already working on the next big musical, High Society.”
The Mill’s current show, It’s Her Turn Now, runs until November 18. High Society starts from November 29, and runs until January 20.
