Garath McCleary has left Wycombe Wanderers after mutually agreeing to terminate his contact amid rumours of a possible return to Reading.
The summer transfer window closes tomorrow at 7pm, however McCleary is now a free agent and is free to join another club outside of the transfer window.
It was reported last week that the Royals have expressed an interest in bringing the 38-year-old back to the club five years after leaving.
McCleary originally joined Reading in 2012 following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.
He went on to play 270 games in all competitions for the Royals before he left on a free transfer in 2020.
After leaving Reading, he joined Wycombe and spent five seasons with the Chairboys, racking up 219 games for the club where he became a fans’ favourite.
Wycombe manager Mike Dodds said: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Garath during my time at the club and I know he’s been a really influential character on and off the pitch ever since he arrived.
“He’s been a fantastic professional and a role model for other players, and always applied himself superbly day in, day out, which is why he’s continued to enjoy a successful career long into his 30s and he’ll have plenty to offer his next club when the time comes.”
