A man who died at a construction site in Reading earlier this year has been named.

Earlier this year, emergency services responded to a report of a serious injury at a construction site in Amethyst Lane, Southcote.

The incident occurred on February 19, with the 36-year-old worker dying of his injuries on February 23 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The man has now been named as Andrian Gherasim.

Investigations at the site are being undertaken by Thames Valley Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We are still investigating the incident with the HSE.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the death.”

The HSE also clarified that Thames Valley Police retain primacy in the investigation, and is continuing to work with them under the work-related death protocol.

The construction is being undertaken by Helix Construction Ltd, a company based in Newbury, which was appointed to deliver the project by Reading Borough Council.

Workers are building 17 new affordable council homes and a respite care facility for residents with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

The plans for the project were approved by councillors at a meeting in December 2023.

Detailed plans for the development have also been approved, with an aim for the project to be completed later next year.

The project period on the website Construction Map states that the contract will end on March 31.

The new buildings have replaced a family support centre and an office for the council’s Protection and Planning department.
