A man from Whitley has been given a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order in Whitley following an investigation by Thames Valley Police.
Barry Withers, 42, of Staverton Road, Whitley, pleaded guilty to the offence in a hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 26th.
He had been given a CPN with conditions not to be on Shuinfield Recreation Ground, but was found at this location on Tuesday, June 24th.
The CPN was issued to Withers due to multiple offences of shoplifting which has resulted in alarm and distress to shop workers and customers.
He is prohibited from entering the Co-op store in Whitley Wood and the Tesco in Shinfield Road.
He is also prohibited from wearing hoods or face coverings in any shop in Berkshire and must leave a shop when directed to do so by any member of staff.
Should he breach any of these conditions, he will be liable to arrest and further prosecution.
PC Jonathan Bowness, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Withers’ pattern of behaviour has been an extreme nuisance to the people and businesses in Whitley.
“He was in flagrant breach of the conditions of a Community Protection Notice, and as a result, he has now been issued with a stringent Criminal Behaviour Order.
“Should he continue to breach these conditions, he will be liable to arrest and further prosecution.
“I hope that he understands the importance of sticking by the conditions of the order and does not repeat his offending behaviour.”
