READING Repertory Theatre is bringing an exciting new production of a classic show to the stage this month.
The company is showing a new production of Jean Genet’s The Maids, translated by Martin Kemp, and inspired by the murders committed by the Papin sisters in the 1930s.
The Maids follows two sisters harbouring a secret, roleplaying as mistress and maid while their wealthy madam is away, leading to a game of cat and mouse as their deeper intentions are revealed.
The show will be directed by Genesis Future Directors Award-winning Annie Kershaw and feature Anna Popplewell (Hedda Gabler – Reading Rep Theatre) as Solange, Carla Harrison-Hodge (Amadeus – National Theatre) as Mistress, and Charlie Oscar (Plaza Suite – Savoy Theatre) as Claire.
Cat Fuller provides set and costume design, with Joe Dines composing and providing sound design, Catja Hamilton providing lighting design, and Adi Gortler as movement and intimacy director.
The Maids is showing at Reading Repertory Theatre from Tuesday, January 28, to Saturday, February 8.
