Former Reading West parliamentary candidate and local mum Olivia Bailey has been selected to fight Reading West and Mid Berkshire for Labour at the general election.
Bailey, who was born in Reading, lives in the constituency and has two children attending school in West Berkshire.
In a statement she pledged to focus on the issues that matter to residents including fixing the NHS, getting more police on the streets and tackling the cost of living crisis.
She has also pledged to be a visible, active local MP with a shop-front office in the heart of the community.
With polls showing it is neck and neck between Labour and the Conservatives in the seat, Bailey has pledged to “fight for every vote” to deliver the “fresh start Reading West and Mid Berkshire deserves”.
Former Reading West Labour MP Martin Salter has backed Bailey to win the seat from the Tories, warning people “not to waste their votes on the Lib Dems or other minor parties”.
Bailey said: “I am so proud to be Labour’s candidate in my home seat at the general election.
“It’s where I live, it is where my kids go to school and I’m determined to deliver for the community that I love.
“Under the Tories it is harder to make ends meet and it is almost impossible to access the public services we should be able to rely on. I’ll fight to fix our NHS, get police back on our streets and bring investment and jobs to the area.
“I will be working hard to win the trust and support of residents, and will fight for every vote to deliver the fresh start Reading West and Mid Berkshire deserves.”
