MPs in Reading are set to host an event to help residents get to know their representatives and find out more about policy priorities this week.

Labour MP for Reading West and Mid Berkshire Olivia Bailey and Labour MP for Earley and Woodley Yuan Yang are holding a Meet Your MP event on Thursday, August 29.

The event will see a particular focus on their thoughts on policies regarding British National Overseas status, which is the scheme that gives an opportunity for status holders from Hong Kong to live and work in the UK.

The event is hosted by the Hong Kong Watch organisation, which advocates for the rights of Hong Kongers in Reading.

The Hong Kong Business Hub estimated last year that there could be as many as 10,000 Hong Kongers in Reading.

Thomas Benson, Policy Advisor for Hong Kong Watch, said: “Tens of thousands of BNO Hong Kongers voted in the General Election, and it’s vital that they continue to have their voices heard in local democracy.

The event takes place at Greyfriars Church, central Reading, from 6.30pm on Thursday, August 29.
