A charity horse race at Newbury saw one competitor combining business and pleasure to raise more than £5,000 for the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF).
Richard Freeman, who works as a bloodstock insurance broker for Lycetts at its Newmarket office, took part in the charity event on Al Shaqab Lockinge Day to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
He was one of twelve riders taking part in the ten-furlong race.
“I have long been aware of the vitally important role the IJF performs in supporting riders and their families in horseracing and the wider equestrian sphere,” said Freeman.
“Getting involved in the event was an easy decision.”
Thanks to the generosity of Lycetts parent company, Benefact Group, which match-funded the money he raised, Freeman was able to present a cheque for £5,290 to Lisa Hancock, CEO of IJF.
Freeman, who rode nine-year-old gelding Storm Riding, continued: “Before entering the world of insurance, I had a long background in horse riding. In fact, I still ride out each morning before heading into the office.”
