IT IS one of the toughest challenges of all, and a bit muddy, but a first XI from a Thames Valley-based company took it on – and won.
The Vistry Group, which has its regional headquarters in Reading, saw 11 of its team take part in the Tough Mudder South West last month. Held at the Badminton Estate in Gloucestershire, they underwent the trials to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity that helps people with dementia.
After mud, sweat and a few tears – and navigating a series of challenging muddy obstacles – all the team members made it over the finish line of the course, netting more than £2,000 for the company’s charity of the year.
Trevor Wicks, managing director of Vistry Thames Valley, was part of the team that completed the challenge.
“This is the second year at Vistry that we have done the Tough Mudder obstacle course. This year was tougher, as the course was longer than last year,” he said.
“Some of us were better trained for the day than others, but we were all faced by weather conditions which made the course more challenging.
“One minute it was raining, then there were strong winds. But despite all the obstacles and weather, the whole team still made it across the finishing line which was a big accomplishment.
“The Alzheimer’s Society is a very personal charity to me as, unfortunately, my Grandma suffered with Alzheimer’s. Being able to raise awareness and support the research that goes into helping those affected really means a lot to me.”
Vistry Thames Valley is part of the Vistry Group which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Countryside Homes. The division is building new homes at locations across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire.
