Island Sailing Club Reading lost out to Goring-on-Thames Sailing Club as the annual race took place for the first time since the pandemic.
The first of the two annual races between teams of the Island Sailing Club Reading and Goring-on-Thames Sailing Club recommenced last weekend after being cancelled during the pandemic.
It’s unusual for sailing clubs to race against one another and what is also different in this case is the sailing waters of the two clubs.
Goring sail on the restricted waters of the Thames and sometimes have to avoid other river users while the Island Club have their lake at Pingewood to themselves.
The weather was brilliant for safe sailing on the Pingewood lake, but the result went against the hosts with Goring taking the trophy by a narrow margin, 53.5 to the Islands 54.75, the lower score being the winner.
The individual winner was Mark Hay, also of the Goring club. The reverse fixture takes place later in the summer.
