Thames Valley Police has launched an investigation with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, after a fire in Whitley Wood caused the death of a person in Reading.
It comes after emergency services were called to a fire in a flat on Whitley Wood Road on the morning of Sunday, February 16.
Fire officers were alerted to the fire at 9.20m, where they were able to extinguish the fire.
While no other properties were affected, a woman in her sixties died at the scene as a result.
Detective Inspector Sally Russell, based at Reading police station, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman has sadly died. Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we have identified and notified her next of kin and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time for them.
“We are currently investigating the circumstances around this fire, but at this stage, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances, and a file will be prepared for the Berkshire coroner.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while the investigation was under way.”
