CAVERSHAM has been hit by a power cut and the electricity is not expected to be back on until later this afternoon.
Around 12.30pm homes, businsesses and schools in the RG4 area lost their power.
The affected area is around Albert Road, St Andrew’s Road, Kidmore Road, Oakley Road and Highmore Road.
Initially, a larger area was affected, hitting hundreds of households, small businesses and Caversham Primary School. It is unclear whether the Balmore Park Doctors Surgery was affected.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks have an engineer on site trying to fix the problem.
Electricity is expected to be back online by 3.30pm.
A note on their website says: “We’re sorry for the loss of supply.
“We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.
“If you need more information, please call us on 105 or send a message via Facebook or Twitter @ssencommunity and quote reference JE6565.”
Reading East MP Matt Rodda said: “I’m concerned about the loss of power in Caversham and I have contacted Scottish and Southern Electrity to ask them to look into this and see what can be done to avoid this happening again.”
