Reading FC manager Ruben Selles is optimistic that the long ongoing takeover saga at the club is finally ‘coming to an end’.
Speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire following Reading’s pre-season win away at Woking on Tuesday night, Selles is hoping that a takeover will bring ‘calmness’ to the club.
It is expected that former Wycombe Wanderers chairman Rob Couhig, with consortium Chiron Sports Group, will soon finalise a deal to buy the club from Dai Yongge.
“I think it’s coming to an end. The sooner, the better,” said Selles.
“Then we will have clarity about what we can be, not only on the football pitch with transfers or not, but also as a football club.
“I said last season that at one point in the season I stopped caring about any potential takeover or change in ownership and just tried to focus on developing the squad.”
The Royals are currently under a transfer embargo which means they are limited to only signing free agents or loans, however they cannot complete any deals until a takeover deal goes through.
Selles continued: “Hopefully the takeover will give us more calmness and more support.
“Then if the takeover comes, there’s possibility to get a couple of players and we will welcome it and try to get the very best we can.
“If not, then I’m very happy with where we are and are pretty sure we can continue the relationship with the fans and the football we play with youngsters coming in and winning matches.”
Reading continue their pre-season preparations on Saturday when they host QPR at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
They face two more Championship sides as they travel away to Cardiff in midweek before playing at home to Hull City on Saturday, August 3.
The League One campaign then starts with a visit to Birmingham City on Saturday, August 10.
