HYPERFAST fibre-optic broadband is coming to Newtown as the next phase of installation works gets underway.

Residents are being warned of temporary parking suspensions across the area in a programme of works that starts next week.

Workers will excavate roads, lay ducting, and then cover over, ready for the big digital switchover.

Grain Internet has already announced plans to install cables in the area, bringing speeds of up to 900mbps to homes.

The area is already connected to Virgin Media, with the fibre optics dating back to when the company was known as Comtel, before becoming NTL, which ultimately became the company it is today.

Virgin’s top speeds in Newtown also reach 1Gbps.

City Fibre is also installing ultrafast broadband across the town, and other internet providers can use its network. Some, including TalkTalk offer services that start at £30 per month for 1gbps.

The work in Newtown starts from Monday, November 7, in Freshwater Road, with various parking restrictions until Sunday, November 13.

Also starting on November 7 is Cholmeley Terrace. These works are expected to take three days.

Regent Terrace works start on Wednesday, November 9, and end on Friday, November 11.

The team move to Cholmeley Place on Saturday, November 12, with work due to end on Monday, November 14.

Liverpool Road is next, starting at its junction with Freshwater Road on Monday, November 14, ending at the junction with Coventry Road on Thursday, November 24.

Manchester Road, at its junction with Liverpool Road and Radstock Road, starts the same day, and it is expected the works will finish on Monday, November 28.

Residents of Amity Street can expect works from Tuesday, November 15, through to Friday, November 18.

Amity Road starts from its junction with Amity Street on Friday, November 18, working its way up the street to end on Monday, November 28.

Cumberland Road will see works commence on Monday, November 28, again from its junction with Amity Street. The installation here is expected to be finished by Monday, December 5.

Cholmeley Road works start on Tuesday, November 29, running through to Tuesday, December 13.

The installation programme starts in Coventry Road on Saturday, December 10, and carries on until Friday, December 16.

Norwood Road will see disruption on Monday, December 5, through to Wednesday, December 7.

The team immediately move on to Orts Road, with works there scheduled to end on Sunday, December 10.

Sun Street will see works on December 10 through to Tuesday, December 12, but only between its junction with Cumberland Road and number 11. Both sides of the road will be tackled.

Norton Road comes after, starting on Saturday, December 17, and running through to Christmas Eve.

Work then pauses for the festive break.

It resumes in Filey Road on Monday, January 9, through to Sunday, January 15.

Works in Radstock Road are scheduled to start the same day that Filey Road ends, and all being well, will finish on Tuesday, January 17.
