MEMBERS of a group interested in local history will hear about the struggles of civil war this month.
At their next meeting the History of Reading Society will welcome Catherine Sampson, who will speak about the impact on people living in and around Reading during the English Civil War of the mid 1600s.
Catherine is a social historian and chairman of both the Berkshire Family History Society and Purley’s local history society.
During the English Civil War, soldiers occupied Reading and surrounding areas with devastating effects.
Catherine’s talk, Living Through the Civil War: The Impact on the People in and Around Reading, will describe how communities were caught up in skirmishes, and how they attempted to carry on with their lives.
The meeting will be delivered over Zoom, on Wednesday, February 19, at 7.30pm, and is available to paid up members of the History of Reading Society.
To join the group it costs just £9 for the whole year (January 1 through to December 31).
