READING FC interim boss Noel Hunt believes that Andy Carroll was unfortunate to have been sent off in the Royals’ draw with Luton Town.
Andy Carroll put the hosts ahead before he was sent off for handling the ball into the net, cutting celebrations short when Reading thought they had found a second.
We’ve got to be happy with a point in the end,” said Hunt.
“We started the game really well, really bright and controlled the game in the first 15, 20 minutes.
“Then we did some things we didn’t speak about the last couple of days and gave away some easy balls and gave them respect on the ball that led to waves of attack.
“We addressed that at half-time and went ahead with a great goal.”
Hunt believes that Carroll was unfortunate to see red and believes his hand ball was accidental.
He continued: “1-0 up and you think you’ve scored again and then get it chalked off and a man sent off.
“I’ve seen it back, he doesn’t mean the handball. Sometimes you do close your eyes and lose the flight of the ball, it’s harsh.
“He knows it himself. The point is that if I’m in his shoes, I probably do the same thing. It’s accidental. He’s gutted.
“There’s no common sense.”
Despite feeling aggrieved with the decision to reduce his team to 10, Hunt was pleased with the desire shown by his side.
“It showed the spirit of the group and the character. I’m very, very proud.
“Every point is important. We know that. We have to take positives and learn from little things when we gave the ball away, to stay calm and get back to the game plan.
“We look a good team. We are a good team. We’ve got some really good players in that dressing room.”
