GB athlete and Reading Sports Awards ‘Schools Personality of the Year’ winner 2024, Carys Westcott, is starting this year’s Green Park Challenge.

18 year old Carys, from Reading, is a GB Biathle champion with multiple World & European medals.

She is an inspirational choice to kick off the family challenge at the Reading Half Marathon. The Reading Sports Awards described Carys as “A true role model, she juggles elite sport, academics, & mentoring others. Reading is so proud of you, Carys!”.

Carys is right at the heart of sport in Reading. Active all over town, from swimming at Crossfields pool to training at Palmer Park. She loves being part of the local sporting community so much that even her part-time job is working as a lifeguard at Palmer Park! Her school, The Abbey in Reading, is immensely proud of how Carys mentors and sets such a good example of sportsmanship to other young athletes.

It will be a proud moment for Carys starting the Green Park Challenge, a race she herself has taken part in and she will be an exemplary role model to those running past her on the startline. They could even be running past a future local Olympian.

Carys’ dream is to take part in the Olympics and we hope that dream comes true, with the whole of Reading proudly behind her. Just like she will be behind all of the runners on March 23rd.
