A woman from Reading has turned an early challenge into a thriving career in the beauty industry, now running a salon and online training business alongside her daughter.
Andrea became a single mother at 16. After her daughter, Mia, started nursery, Andrea took a part-time job in a pub, not only to earn an income but also to support her mental health and independence.
Her career path changed after she spotted a college course booklet left on the bar. One course in massage inspired her to enrol, setting her on a new trajectory. Over the following years, Andrea trained in a variety of beauty treatments and began offering services from her home, gradually building a loyal client base.
Today, Andrea runs a salon and an online education business that trains beauty professionals across the UK. She recently took on her first staff member and now works alongside her 18-year-old daughter Mia, hosting children’s pamper events as part of their family-focused brand.

Alongside her professional achievements, Andrea has expanded her family, becoming a mother to two more children. She says her experience has shaped the way she approaches both life and work.
“I didn’t want my daughter growing up thinking struggle was the norm,” Andrea says.
“That college course gave me direction, and I’ve kept building from there. Having more children didn’t stop me, it gave me even more reason to grow.”
Andrea also mentors other women, particularly mothers and beauty professionals, helping them to develop confidence, flexibility, and income through entrepreneurship.
Her story highlights resilience and determination, showing how early challenges can be transformed into long-term success.
