THEY SAY the best things in life are free, and on Saturday a Reading town centre store is living up to that adage.

Every customer visiting Crunch Comics in Harris Arcade on May 4 can choose not one by two free comics as part of the annual Free Comic Book Day event.

There are 25 different titles available on a first-come, first-served basis. They include comics featuring Spider-Man, Hellboy, Pokeman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Unicorn Crush.

The event is hugely popular, so to meet demand the store will open from 9am.

Crunch Comics will also host a special sale, with back issues starting from £1. There will be discounts on graphic novels, figures and collectables and there will also be a competition.

Bryce, Crunch Comics’ assistant manager said the store looks forward to Free Comic Book Day, as it’s one of their favourite days of the year. The titles include tasters and introductions so new readers can jump in.

One of their highlights is the Energon Universe Special from Image Comic, it has been one of its biggest sellers the past year and it’s been really exciting see Transformers fans rediscover comics.

“We’ll have over 25 different FCBD 2024 special edition comic titles available to choose from: from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the X-Men, from Pokémon to Spider-Man – there’s sure to be something for all the family,” Bryce said.

“So, whether you’re already a regular comic reader or perhaps you haven’t read comics for a while but are interested in getting back into reading comics – or even if you’ve never tried reading comics before – there’s sure to be a Free Comic Book Day special edition comic for you.”
