Former Reading FC player Liam Rosenior is set to be appointed as the new Blackpool FC manager.
The Tangerines are on the lookout for a manager ahead of the new Championship season after Neil Critchley left the position to become Steven Gerrard’s assistant manager at Aston Villa.
Critchley led Blackpool to a 16th place finish in the Championship last season in what was the club’s first season back in the division having won promotion via the League One play-offs in 2020/21.
Rosenior, who is currently assistant manager at Derby County under Wayne Rooney has reportedly been offered the job to be Blackpool’s new boss and is set to take his first job as a number one.
In his playing days as a left-back, Rosenior spent three years with Reading.
He joined the club under Steve Coppell in 2007/08 after the Royals had won promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history and prepared to battle for their second season in the top flight having finished eighth in the 2006/07 campaign.
He played 17 times in the Premier League as the Royals suffered a heartbreaking relegation on the final day as Fulham survived.
Rosenior played 42 Championship games in Reading’s first season back in the Championship where they were beaten in the play-off semi-finals by Burnley.
He then left on loan to Ipswich town for the 2009/10 season before joining Hull City on a permanent basis the following season.
Rosenior went on to play five seasons with the Tigers, including two in the Premier League before he also helped Brighton & Hove Albion win promotion to the top flight before retiring in 2018.
He is now set to face his former club in the dugout next season as the new boss of Blackpool.
