Former Reading FC defender Tom Holmes has made an unexpected loan move to Belgian side FCV Dender just one year on from completing a permanent move away from Reading.

Last January, Holmes made the move from Reading to join Luton Town, but re-joined the Royals on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Holmes made a total of 129 first-team appearances from Reading having graduated from the club’s academy.

Having made his league debut in 2017/18, Holmes became a mainstay in the first team in the 2020/21 season under Veljko Paunovic.

Holmes struggled with injury issues throughout his final season with the Royals under Ruben Selles and only managed to make 12 appearances in all competition before he departed to join Luton Town.

However, since joining the side that were relegated from the Premier League last season, Holmes and the Hatters have both struggled to find form in the Championship and are currently in a relegation battle.

Luton are currently in 23rd spot in the table on 27 points from 30 games.

New manager Matt Bloomfield, formerly of Wycombe Wanderers, decided to loan Holmes out and will now play in the ??? for the rest of the 2024/25 campaign.

Dender are in 11th place in the Belgian Pro League and just two points above the relegation spots.
