Former Reading FC defender Matty Carson has joined League Two side Grimsby Town following his release from the Royals.

The left-back was released by Reading following the expiration of his contract.

Carson made 10 League One appearances for Ruben Selles’ side last campaign and also featured heavily for Noel Hunt’s U21s side.

He has now signed a two-year deal with Grimsby.

The Mariners narrowly avoided relegation last season and finished in 21st place on 49 points.

Carson said: “Absolutely delighted to have signed for Grimsby Town for two years, I can’t wait to get started.
