Former Reading FC captain Liam Moore has signed for League One Northampton Town on a short term deal until the end of the season.

Having spent seven seasons with the Royals, Moore was released as a free agent at the end of the 2022/23 having experienced numerous injury problems in his final couple of years at the club.

Moore enjoyed a superb start to life at Reading and became a vital member of the team and was made club captain at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

However, after stating his desire to pursue a move away from the club, he was stripped of club captaincy in January 2022 and then joined Stoke City on a loan move.

The loan move was cut short after he picked up a serious injury. He then managed just three appearances in his final season with Reading as injuries continued to frustrate him.

The 31-year-old centre back now joins Northampton, who are currently in 11th spot in League One.

He could make his return to face Reading when the Cobblers make the visit to Berkshire on Saturday, March 29.

Northampton boss Jon Brady said: He has already fitted in well with the group and he brings with him a good amount of experience and an excellent pedigree.

“We are in a busy schedule at the moment and we wanted to make a defensive addition to the squad.

“He has played a lot of football in the Premier League or the Championship and we are pleased we have been able to welcome him to the club.”
