Reading FC fans have expressed concerns over the fitness of number one goalkeeper Joel Pereira after the club recalled goalkeeper Tom Norcott from his loan at Woking.

Speaking after Reading’s draw against Exeter City last week, manager Noel Hunt confirmed that the staff would be assessing Pereira ahead of the game against Cardiff.

He said: “He picked something up in training during the week so we will assess him and hopefully he is ok. He took a sore one on Thursday so hopefully he’s fine.”

Some fans have speculated that Pereira may be out of action after the club decided to recall Norcott from his loan at Woking.

A statement by Woking said: “Reading FC has recalled goalkeeper Tom Norcott from his loan spell, as the Royals seek additional cover in their goalkeeping department.

“Tom has come in and done brilliantly when called upon. Reading are recalling him to add cover to their squad, and while he’s not playing for us, we have little argument to keep him despite how well he has done.

We thank Reading for their working with us and being as helpful as they have been.

We wish Tom all the best and hope to see his career go from strength to strength.”
