A NEW first-of-its-kind lodge has formed in Reading celebrating science fiction and fantasy.
The special interest Freemason’s lodge saw its maiden event celebrating geek fandom in its new home of the Sindlesham HQ for Berkshire Freemasonry.
Among the 130 attendees, donning their best cosplay, were participants who had travelled from as far as Las Vegas, USA, and an organist performing themes from some of the genre’s most celebrated films.
They were also joined by the leaders of Freemasonry in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire as chief guests, with the lodge welcoming a brand new member on its very first night of its launch.
The Sindlesham HQ was transformed for the night, with atmospheric lighting, lightsabers, StormTrooper helmets, and even a TARDIS motif, as well as being adorned with the lodge’s crest, which is adorned with an astronaut and a dragon.
It follows the repurposing of the lodge previously known as the St Edmund Lodge which was formed in 1947, with some members remaining to form part of the new lodge.
Freemasonry adapts to the needs of its lodges, of which there are more than 100 in Berkshire, comprising of more than 2,700 members.
The lodges help members to meet, build friendships, and work to improve the lives of those in their communities through their principles of integrity, friendship, respect, and service.
