Fire crews still attending site of ‘small electrical fire’ in central Reading, buses diverted

TRAFFIC in central Reading is seeing diversions following reports of a fire in Friar Street.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service reports that it is still attending the scene of a fire at commercial premises which broke out earlier today, Wednesday, February 12.

At around 3:12pm, crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Wokingham and Whitley Wood were called to the incident, which they describe as a “small electrical fire” in Friar Street.

Firefighters remain at the scene at time of writing.

Reading Buses posted to social media to explain that a number of diversions are now in place while firefighters continue to attend the site of the fire.

In a post, Reading Buses explained that Leopard 3, Lion 4/X4, Bronze 11, Sky Blue 15/16, Buzz 19, and Royal Blue 33 routes would all see diversions.

It also explained that delays of up to half an hour were affecting a number of routes.

It read: “Lion 4/X4, Bronze 11 towards Reading diverting due to a fire in Friar Street; West Street, left onto Friar St, round Chatham Street roundabout, down slip road onto Caversham Road, Vastern Road, Blagrave Street EO.

“Friar Street, Leopard 3/buzz 9/19’s are diverted West Street, turn left onto Friar St, round Chatham Street roundabout, down slip road onto Caversham Road, Vastern Road, Blagrave Street to SA.

“Sky Blue 15/16 Royal Blue 33 diverting West Street, left Friar St, round Chatham Street roundabout, down slip road onto Caversham R, Vastern Road, Blagrave Street Friar Street West to FE.”
