Cinema-goers in Reading will have plenty to look forward to in 2026, with Vue Reading set to screen a wide range of major releases, from long-awaited sequels to new films from some of the world’s most celebrated directors.

As 2025 comes to an end, studios are already lining up what is expected to be another strong year for family films, franchise favourites and blockbuster storytelling.

Animated characters will once again take centre stage with the return of Toy Story 5, due for release on 19 June. The latest instalment sees Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys facing a modern challenge as they compete for Bonnie’s attention against her newest possession — a tablet.

Another familiar character returning to cinemas is Nintendo’s iconic plumber in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, released on 3 April. The film follows Mario and his friends on a new space-themed adventure.

Family audiences can also expect Disney’s live-action remake of Moana, arriving on 10 July, alongside Minions 3 on 3 July. The Star Wars universe continues to expand with The Mandalorian & Grogu, a feature-length adventure released on 22 May.

Superhero fans will not be left out. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, released on 31 July, sees the web-slinger face a new threat, while Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow arrives on 26 July, introducing Kara Zor-El as part of the expanding DC cinematic universe.

One of the year’s most anticipated releases comes from director Christopher Nolan. The Odyssey, based on the Greek epic, is due in cinemas on 17 July. The film features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and Anne Hathaway, retelling the perilous journey of Odysseus.

Rohin Hamedi, General Manager at Vue Reading, said 2026 was shaping up to be a varied and exciting year for cinema audiences.

“From family favourites to big-screen spectacles and long-awaited sequels, there’s something for everyone. Audiences can expect a broad mix of familiar characters and new stories across the year.”
