Reading FC striker Jack Marriott could miss the remainder of the season after suffering a long-term injury, dealing a significant blow to the club’s hopes of securing a League One play-off place.
The 31-year-old forward has been in stunning goal scoring form since arriving from Wrexham in the summer transfer window.
His addition has transformed Reading’s attack where he has netted 16 goals in 23 games, making him the second top scorer in the division.
Although the club has nto yet confirmed Marriott’s injury, he has been ommited from the matchday squad for Saturday’s game agaisnt Bradford City. Meanwhile, young striker Sean Patton, who has impressed at Aldershot Town, has been recalled from his loan which has sparked fears that Marriott’s injury could be long term.
Reading remain in contention for a play-off spot in League One, but the loss of their leading striker comes at a critical time, with several decisive fixtures still to play.
The Royals will need the likes of Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, Will Keane and possibly Patton to help fill the void left during Marriott’s absence.
Reading go into their game against fellow play-off chasers Bradford City just four points outside the top six and with a game in hand over 6th placed Huddersfield Town.
