A family-run fish and chip shop in Tilehurst could soon sell alcohol alongside takeaway food.
The owners of The Tasty Plaice in Park Lane, Tilehurst have applied to Reading Borough Council to permit the sale from 11.30am to 10pm.
Simi Sandhu, who owns the takeaway with her husband Jay, said: “We have applied for the license to enable us to offer meal deals, so we can sell two fish and chips and a bottle of wine for one price, because not everybody wants a bottle of Coke.
“We will have bottled beer and ciders options too.
“It will be for takeaway only, as we don’t have seating.”
Back in 2019, The Tasty Plaice introduced a gluten-free menu on Sundays, which Mrs Sandhu said continues to be “hugely popular”. The menu gluten-free cod, plaice, haddock, jumbo sausages, battered sausages, chips and cheesy bites.
Members of the public can comment on the application by emailing licensing@gov.uk, with the deadline for comments being Sunday, October 22.
Tasty Plaice opened in 2013, with the Sandhu family also running The Avenue Deli in Calcot.
