Reading FC striker Sam Smith has admitted that he has ‘no idea’ whether he will still be at the club after the January transfer window.
The forward admitted that it’s been an extremely difficult time for all of the staff having lost manager Ruben Selles to Hull City coupled with the long ongoing takeover saga.
Speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire after Reading’s win over Northampton Town, Smith was asked whether he expects to still be with the Royals after the window shuts.
He said: “I honestly have no idea. We’ve seen in the past the decision of some players is taken out of their hands.
“It’s obviously difficult and you don’t know what is around the corner. There is people settled here who want to build, but god knows what’s going to happen. Hopefully we can keep as many as we can.
“You lose the manager and January is around the corner, I think the players are fearful as well, no one knows what’s going to happen and it doesn’t look like anything has changed.
“I think everyone is just fed up of it to be honest, it’s a constant kick in the teeth when you’re trying to build and you’re not backed.
“There’s not much we can do about that other than perform on the pitch.”
Despite the anger at the off-field situation, Smith was upbeat about Reading’s on-field performances under new manager Noel Hunt.
He continued: “It’s always positive scoring goals, a bit disappointing not to get the clean sheet, but it’s the first win under Hunty and everyone is delighted.
“I know when Wingy has got it that I can make my movement off him, it’s an unbelievable ball
“It puts us back in the play-offs, we needed it to settle everyone down. It’s been an unbelievably difficult period. The last 18 months with Ruben and now him leaving, it’s been difficult for everyone.
“We spent 18 months learning a system that we got very good at and we went through everything with him as the leader of the group. When he leaves it’s a blow to everyone but I can’t blame him.
“Hunty wants to play attacking football which is always good for me and I want to learn off him. He was a very good striker and I can learn from him.
“I think everyone is just fed up of it to be honest, it’s a constant kick in the teeth when you’re trying to build and you’re not backed. There’s not much we can do about that other than perform on the pitch.”
