The news of a reset of the UK – EU relationship has been welcomed by the local group of the European Movement in Berkshire.
The group has acknowledged that the agreement has some significant steps to ease queues at border crossings, increasing youth mobility and aligning food standards, as well as the work in the defence area and intelligence sharing.
Robert McMaster, a Reading based committee member of Berkshire for Europe, one of the 100 local groups of the European Movement UK has launched a parliamentary petition to ‘Apply for the UK to rejoin the EU fully – do not just ‘reset the relationship.’
He said: “I think the UK needs to rejoin the EU fully for maximum economic benefit and to restore influence rather than merely reset relations.
Robert’s previous petition asking parliament to apply for EU Membership received more than 136,000 signatures and was debated in March with overwhelming support except for a couple of MP’s and the government statement reiterating their manifesto commitment.
