A local charity, Enrych Berkshire, is looking to increase its engagement with the business community.
The charity supports adults with physical disabilities to enjoy a more active and fulfilling life. This is achieved through partnering the disabled person with a volunteer who shares a common interest in a sport, leisure activity or enjoys cultural visits and experiences. Enrych Berkshire works to set up and support these partnerships which help adults with physical disabilities to become active and more independent.
This year, Enrych Berkshire has launched an initiative called ‘Walk to Enrych’, inviting companies in the Reading area to encourage their employees to participate in organised sponsored walks to raise funds for the charity.
Bob Holland, a Trustee of Enrych Berkshire who has participated in a number of charity walks said This initiative goes beyond simply fundraising, but any additional financial support would be very welcome. There are a range of benefits to staff morale arising from working in teams in a different environment. Over the years I have seen teams from a wide range of organisations enjoying challenges, raising funds for charities and promoting their organisations in the process. Companies may also consider supporting their employees to become a member of our team of volunteers. Furthermore, working in partnership with Enrych Berkshire is a good example of Community Engagement which is becoming increasingly important for many organisations.
One company which has responded to this challenge is Sorce Ltd, an intranet software supplier based in Newbury. A team from the company has committed to a 50 kilometre walk in the near future. Additionally, Sorce through Matthew Wheeler, has provided technical support for the development of a new website which is to be launched soon.
Bob Holland added, Hopefully, we can encourage more organisations to work with us in a number of ways, which will enable us to help more disabled adults to be active and enjoy more fulfilling lives.
